Privacy Policy
1. Who this policy is for
This Privacy Policy explains how Pugilism handles information when you use the iPhone app. Pugilism is a shadowboxing training tool, not a social network or an advertising platform.
2. Information stored on your device
Pugilism stores your workout setup preferences locally, on the device, so the app can remember choices such as the selected workout, duration, rounds or open format, focus, level, tempo, stance, coach on or off, coach and combination frequency, music selection, and music and coach volume. It also keeps a training history on the device: for each session that ran at least a minute, when it ended, what it was (a workout or a path level), how long you worked, the rounds completed, the number of cues shown, and the settings needed to run it again. Your progress through the training path is stored the same way. These preferences and records are not sent to us. They are removed from the device when you delete the app, although, like other app data, they may be included in a device backup you make through iCloud or your computer.
3. Training assets and audio
The visual boxing cues, illustrations, and coach audio used during a workout are bundled with the app and play from the device. They are not personal information about you.
4. What Pugilism does not do
The current Pugilism release has no account or login flow, no advertising, and no user-to-user messaging. It does not ask for contacts, location, photos, microphone, or camera access. If you turn on the daily reminder, it asks permission to show notifications; reminders are scheduled on the device and nothing about them is sent anywhere. It does not include a crash reporting service, and it does not offer in-app purchases or subscriptions. Anonymous usage analytics are described in section 5. If any of those are added in a later release, this policy and the App Store privacy answers must both be updated to match before that release ships.
5. Anonymous usage analytics
To learn whether workouts are started, finished and come back to, Pugilism sends a small number of usage signals to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. A signal names an event (the app opening, a session starting, finishing or being shared, where the placement check landed or was left, a fight camp being started or left) and carries details about the workout, such as its level, focus, duration, the round it stopped in, whether it was finished and the minutes worked. Each install is identified only by a random code created on the device; it is not derived from your name, email, device identifier or anything else about you, and we cannot link it to you. Signals do not include your location, contacts or any text you enter.
You can stop all analytics at any time under More → Privacy → Share anonymous usage in the app. As with any network request, ordinary connection information such as your device's IP address is visible to TelemetryDeck when a signal is sent; see TelemetryDeck's own privacy policy for how they handle it.
6. Apple Health
If you switch on More → Apple Health, Pugilism asks iOS for permission to save workouts, and saves each session you train for at least a minute to Apple Health as an indoor boxing workout (its start and end time). It does not read anything from Apple Health. The workouts are written by iOS on your device and are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy terms; we never receive them. You can switch saving off in the app, or remove Pugilism's access in the Health app, at any time.
7. App updates and network access
Pugilism is built with Expo, and the app is configured to use Expo's over-the-air update service. When the app launches it contacts Expo's update service, configured at u.expo.dev, to ask whether a compatible update to the app's software is available, and downloads that update from Expo if one exists. Those requests exist to deliver app software. They are not used to collect analytics or to build a profile of you. As with any network request, ordinary connection information such as your device's IP address is visible to that service.
Aside from those update requests and the analytics signals in section 5, a workout runs entirely from content and preferences already on your device. If a future release adds another network service or third-party SDK, this policy will be updated before that release and will explain the data flow.
8. Children
Pugilism is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
9. Changes to this policy
When the app's data practices change, or when this policy is materially revised, the date above will be updated and the revised policy will be published here.
